DIY Farm to Table Food Trailer

We are so excited to announce the addition of the "Wildberry Farm to Table" Food Trailer to the Field Market and other farm events at Wildberry this season!

When we initially brought the trailer home in the beginning of March, we knew we needed to give it a touch of "Wildberry," but overall what drew us to this DIY farm to table food trailer was the uncanny resemblance to our Market Stand Trailer!

A gray and red food trailer

We started by cleaning out the interior, stripping the inside walls down to the studs, and making plans for the layout of the inside of the trailer.

Over the next month we laid new flooring, put up new plywood walls and skinned them with food-safe plastic panels. We added a new countertop, and a 3-bay sink, and added trim to the windows. Metal panels where we plan to cook were installed. It was starting to really look like something!

Next up was the exterior. We knew we wanted it to compliment the Market Stand, but we didn't want them to match completely. We decided to flip the color scheme and have white walls with mint green doors and trim. It was the right choice!

The last step was the little details like pipes for the counter top support, outlet covers, and installing trailer lights. And some fun details like exterior lights, a window box, and a shelf under the serving window.

Once we started communication with our local Health Department, we ran into some complications. Unfortunately the sink we bought was not compliant, so we had to re-do that section of the food trailer, which resulted in less countertop space than we have originally planned.

We also found out that the refrigeration system we were hoping to use could only hold certain items, and we would need to add a commercial grade refrigerator to the food trailer as well, again cutting our countertop space down. It wasn't ideal, but we made it work!

All-in-all, this trailer flip took us almost 3 months to complete. We only had weekends to work with, and sometimes it felt like we were working against the clock, but we did it!

Over the next couple weeks we will have our final inspections, and prepare for the Wildberry Farm to Table Food Trailer debut at the Field Market Opening Day on 6/10 9am-1pm!

We simply cannot wait to serve delicious Farm-to-Table cuisine to the guests of the Field Market this season. The Field Market runs the 2nd + 4th Saturday of the month June through November. See a complete menu below!
